ragtime

Vivian Beaumont theatre

Ragtime is a sweeping musical set-in early 20th-century America, weaving together the lives of three distinct groups: an affluent white family in New Rochelle, and African American pianist named Coalhouse Walker Jr. and his beloved Sarah, and a Jewish immigrant father and daughter seeking a new life. Against a backdrop of rapid industrial growth, racial tensions, and social upheaval, their intersecting stories explore themes of justice, prejudice, hope, and the pursuit of the American Dream. Blending fictional characters with historical figures, the shows paints a vivid portrait of a nation struggling to define its identity during a time of profound change.
